We always hear about E. coli as the evil bacteria lurking in our factory farmed ground beef and other produce, but I just found out today that it may be key in making biodegradable plastics.

A Korean team of scientists recently developed a plastic made not from fossil fuels, but from a biological source: “a metabolically engineered strain of E. coli.”

Whoa. Is it possible we can have our plastic, and biodegrade it too?
